Except that the space counter doesn’t go up, and it’s only at 2 gigs instead of the 7+ that we have here in 2009. If you’re fool enough to log in, the page captures your account name and password and dumps you back to the real login page.

Needless to say, I wrote a nasty message in the “password” section.

With their plans for World Domination™ already in full swing, Google has begun killing off the competition – literally.

The deer, only a minor contender for world domination, saw it’s hay-day back in 1942 with the release of Bambi. Bambi images dominated the market, seen on anything from coffee mugs to diapers and left no corner of the globe untapped. Their careful publicity techniques cemented the ideal that deer are majestic creatures with big eyes and bigger hearts. Leveraging their excellent publicity, the deer were able to quickly buy key lawmakers and decision-makers. They have influenced the global economy ever since.

But with Google’s meteoric rise and subsequent domination of the blogotubes, they have been steadily entering the political and social arenas. With their latest push, Google is casting out it’s smaller rivals, and dealing with the others in less than friendly terms.

Was this horrifying evidence of Google’s negotiation tactics simply forgotten, or was it left for a reason? Perhaps it’s meant as an example to anyone who stands in their way.

Don’t Be Evil.

Yesterday, Gmail intruduced a new feature in the labs: Multiple Inboxes.

First thought when I heard about it? “Oh, now I can stop forwarding my student account and other Gmail based accounts to my main account and just access them all from the same space.” You know, 9 accounts were given to the Christian, but in secret another ring was forged…

I was only mildly disappointed.

What Multiple Inboxes does is allow you to add up to 5 extra panes to Gmail displaying emails based on simple filters. You can show starred items (“is: starred”), or items from a particular label (“label: mom”). You also have the option of inserting the panes above, below or to the right of the main pane (as seen above).

As of right now there is no list or link to list of filters that you can use on the settings page, so you’ll either need to have the filter syntax memorized, or do things my way. Switch over to the filters settings, create a quick filter, and then copy the result. Then switch back to Multiple Inboxes and paste.

How useful is it? Personally, I think it gets in the way of productivity. If I’m working on one stack of emails under one label, I don’t want to be distracted by the incoming email popping up in the main window.

I’ll admit that it does lend itself to a few applications. You could, for example, show the Bob’s that you have 5 different bosses droning on about TPS reports.
