Change Poster – Obey Hypnotoad

February 20th, 2009 Posted in art

obey hypnotoad

I decided to be creative instead of sarcastic for a moment. And when I say creative, I mean that I created something, not came up with an original idea. I just couldn’t get this one out of my head, so I finally made it.

can i borrow this for my facebook icon/photo/whatever? i’m in a super hypnotoady kind of mood.

all glory to the hypnotoad, and respect for you for stickin’ it to shepfairey.

  6. Christian Blades Says:

christine: You have my blessing to use it for your FB avatar or whatever they want to call it.

You may be disappointed, but it wasn’t my intention to mock Shepard Fairey’s *ahem* “art”. It’s more of a satire of the ridiculous nature of the Obama propaganda art. The message that an unseasoned and untested freshman senator from Illinois could be the savior of the nation was a bit too much for me to stomach.

Also, I really really like Futurama.

edit: Oh wait, he did create the Obama posted, didn’t he? What a douche.

I stumbled across this image in a search for hypnotoad and absolutely love it! I hope you don’t mind – my brother wanted a hypnotoad embroidery for his birthday, and I’m using this image as the design: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paghababian/4584442495/

  9. Christian Blades Says:

That is awesome! Keep at it, I’d love to see the finished product.

[...] how I did this, there would be no way I could get the eyes right. But further searching led me to this picture, a Shepard Fairey-inspired Hypnotoad, and I knew this image could convey all that is Hypnotoad, [...]

Plus you’ve managed to capture so many of my fandoms all at once. You know about the movie “They Live” don’t you? (with the subliminal “OBEY” messages plastered everywhere) And how JMS paid homage to it in the Psy Corps of “Babylon 5″? And… Everybody Loves Hypnotoad.

    Awesome. Awesome to the max.

Anyone making a t-shirt of this yet?

How do I find this poster?

    Hey Christian Blades,
Would you be down with the Toad Suck Review (lit journal out of Arkansas) using your Obey Toad image for cover art? We can provide contrib copies, but that’s about it (we’re a nonprofit underfunded arts project out of a state university). We publish 1000-2000 copies per year and have national/international distribution. Check out our site at toadsuckreview.org. I can send you copy of last issue if you give me a physical address. Please contact me at toadsuckreview@gmail.com. Thanks, Mark Spitzer, Ed in Chief
